A sewing cradle, also called a punch cradle, is a trough-like structure used to accurately create holes in a book signature’s fold. For bookbinders making multi-signature books, a sewing cradle can ensure your holes will line up perfectly for stitching every time. Whether you are making a single-signature, pamphlet-style book or stacking multiple signatures for a Coptic-bound book, our unique sewing cradle will give you the ‘third hand’ you need for bookbinding success!

Our wooden sewing cradle is collapsible and comes in a custom-sewn drawstring bag for storage or travel, as well as instructions for assembly and care. Each piece is laser cut from 1/4" birch plywood and hand-finished with a water-based clear coat.
Available in two sizes:
Regular measures 4 ¾” tall x 7“ wide x 12” long when assembled, this cradle can hold up to a 10 ½” tall signature for hole placement.
Large measures 4 ¾” tall x 7“ wide x 14” long when assembled, this cradle can hold up to a 12 ½”-13" tall signature for hole placement.
